Validate a developer tool idea
Developers don't just complain on Reddit. They file GitHub issues, ask on Stack Overflow, and vent on X. A developer-tool idea needs all of that checked, not just one slice of it.
Why dev tools need a different validation approach
General idea-validation tools are usually built around Reddit, because Reddit is the biggest venue for consumer-facing complaints. But developers describe tooling problems in venues those tools never touch: a GitHub issue with reactions asking for a feature the maintainers won't build, a Stack Overflow question with five competing workaround answers, a Hacker News comment thread where the same pain point recurs across unrelated posts. Missing those means missing the clearest signal available for exactly this category of idea.
How to use NoCrickets for this
Describe the developer problem you're solving, in the words a developer hitting it would use, for example “a linter that catches N+1 queries before code review.” NoCrickets searches Reddit, X, Hacker News, GitHub issues, Stack Overflow, and 21 dev forums live, at query time, and shows you the actual threads, each dated and linked, alongside an on-device semantic idea-match score from 0 to 100 and a plain-arithmetic verdict built from what it found.
What strong signal looks like for a dev tool
- A closed-as-wontfix GitHub issue. The maintainers explicitly decided not to solve it, which leaves room for a separate tool.
- An old Stack Overflow question still getting views. High view counts on an aging question mean the problem is still being hit today.
- The same complaint across multiple sources. A pain point that shows up on GitHub, Stack Overflow, and Reddit independently is a much stronger signal than any one of them alone.
